Our students are powering up their understanding of energy—literally! This week they explored wind energy by designing and testing their own wind turbines. Each group built two different turbine models, then used the wind to lift a small mass and timed how long it took to raise it to a set height.

During our unit on water and its properties, students investigated the science behind water parks. We discussed concepts like buoyancy, gravity, friction, currents, potential energy, and kinetic energy, as well as the importance of thoughtful design and water conservation. After learning the science, students worked in pairs to design and name their own water slides. The final challenge was putting their designs to the test by adding water and sending ten marbles down the slides—making sure they stayed on course and didn’t collide at the bottom. It was a fun way to see real science principles in action!

One of the highlights of the event was the incredible creativity displayed in the mini golf holes. Each of the nine uniquely themed holes was designed and built with care, imagination, and lots of fun details. As families made their way through the course, we heard so many excited comments and impressed reactions!

Students start by randomly selecting alleles to determine each trait’s phenotype, then team up to “cross” their DNA and discover what kind of little spud their pairing will produce.

Using paper towel rolls, boxes, and other paper goods, students designed, tested, and tweaked their creations to see how water moves, speeds up, and changes direction.
