Catch the Wind: Student Engineers at Work

Our students are powering up their understanding of energy—literally! This week they explored wind energy by designing and testing their own wind turbines. Each group built two different turbine models, then used the wind to lift a small mass and timed how long it took to raise it to a set height.

With those measurements, students calculated the power output of each design to see which turbine captured the wind most effectively. It was a perfect blend of engineering, problem‑solving, and real‑world energy science.
