2025 Varsity Soccer Season Recap
2025 brought some changes to the CCS Lions Varsity soccer team, including a new Head Coach, Bill Smyrnow, and seven new players, including a rookie goalie! Coming off one of the most successful recent campaigns in 2024, at 10-4-1, the Lions picked up where they left off last year, ending with a 9-5 record for 2025. The Lions returned 12 veteran players to the team, who were joined by a senior rookie goalie, 3 new underclassmen and a trio of talented 8th graders. The team spent the first part of the year learning the new style of play, where the focus of the game was “playing an attractive, short ball style, with total team involvement”, according to Coach Bill. Returning Asst. Coach Ed Main, called it “confidence play” achieved through advanced ball handling drills.
The Lions scored 57 goals across their 14 games (avg. over 4 goals a match), giving up 31 to opponents. Sophomore Justin Lundy was the top scorer with 13 goals, followed by his brother, senior, Javen Lundy (10). Rounding out the top five scorers were senior Isaiah Rodriguez (8), sophomore Riley Main (5) and 8th grader, Jeremiah Riscutti (4). Sophomore Mimi Smyrnow led the team with 8 assists as she continued to be the heartbeat of the center of the pitch every game, along with Isaiah, who racked up 6 assists himself (2nd most). In the end, EVERY player ended up with either a goal or an assist.
The Lions went into the NEACS-South Tournament ranked #2 but fell to #3 Central Christian, after beating them twice during the regular season. CCS then defeated #4 Midstate for 3rd place in the consolation game.
In a season filled with great soccer, one of their most impressive and memorable matches was going to play Grace Academy in MA, who were top ranked in the NEACS-North division, and putting on a clinic of passing and controlling the match, frustrating the first place Grace players in a 3-0 win. Congratulations to our Lions on another successful season and to this year’s outgoing seniors, who will be missed greatly, Cadel Van Scoy, Javen Lundy, Jared Williams, Isaiah Rodriguez and Blaine Mosby. Well done!
