From Alleles to Adorable: "Spudoodle" Creation Day

Our biology students are diving into genetics in the most delightfully spud‑tacular way—by creating “spudoodles”! This annual favorite turns inheritance patterns into hands‑on fun. Students start by randomly selecting alleles to determine each trait’s phenotype, then team up to “cross” their DNA and discover what kind of little spud their pairing will produce.

Once the genetics are set, the real creativity begins as they build their potato offspring. Every year the lab fills with laughter, surprises, and some truly unforgettable genetic masterpieces. It’s a fantastic blend of science and imagination, and the results never disappoint!
