Field Trip to the Springfield Science Museum!

Last month the fifth grade took a field trip to the Springfield Science Museum!

We enjoyed three workshops as a part of our day. The first was a chemistry workshop where we got to explore acids and bases. One activity in that workshop was to add a substance to a mystery liquid. The color change would reveal the mystery liquid by locating that color on a chart of acids and bases. The second workshop was about electricity. We got to experience some hair-raising closed circuits - literally! The third workshop was in their newly renovated museum planetarium. The presentation was presented by the oldest American-made star projector in the WORLD! Having done a unit on Space and later this year will do a unit on Chemical and Physical changes, this fit into our curriculum very well. We had a delightfully fun educational day! -- Mrs. Loftus
