Sophie the Service Dog Visits K Prep

As told by Miss Jordan and Rachael-Lynn (age 5)

This month, K-Prep has been learning about community helpers, from firefighters to doctors to toy makers. We read books, played pretend, and got to do lots of hands-on learning with special visitors. On October 10, we had 2 guests join us. One of them was not like the other guests we have seen. She was furry, had 4 legs, and loved to give kisses!

Sophie the service dog came alongside her owner from Tails of Joy. "Sophie helps people who could be happy again. She gives them kisses, lets us pet her, and let us walk her outside!" shared Kprep student Rachael-Lynn. Though Sophie herself is deaf and can't hear commands, she is trained to cheer up anyone whose path she crosses.

"When you point at the floor, she sits but then she wants a treat. Sophie can't hear so we have to do signs to her," Rachael-Lynn explained. "I like it when she visits our classroom since she makes me smile. I wish Sophie could live in our class!"

Sophie has a pretty cool job and does it like a pro!
