Grade 2 Scientists at Work: Exploring, Investigating, and Wondering

Learning Through Stations and Hands-On Exploration

In science stations, students explored the properties of matter in meaningful, engaging ways. They investigated characteristics such as hardness, flexibility, and absorbency, as well as identifying different states of matter. Through careful observation and hands-on testing, students made thoughtful decisions about how and why different materials are used in the world around them. One especially memorable moment came when students studied an amaryllis plant that had finished blooming. As they observed it closely, curiosity took over: What does it look like inside? With no hesitation, the class decided, “Let’s find out!” . That simple question turned into a rich learning experience rooted in exploration and discovery.

Investigating the Power of Wind

Students have also been investigating how gentle wind and strong wind can shape the surface of the Earth. Through hands-on activities, they are beginning to understand how natural forces slowly and constantly change our world in powerful ways.

Faith Across Learning

In every science lesson, learning is also connected to faith. A Bible verse is shared daily to help students see God’s hand in creation and discovery.

“In (Christ) are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” — Colossians 2:3

As Mrs. Shemenski (our grade 2 teacher) said, “This means that every lesson, no matter the subject, can reveal something about God’s character and His creation.”

One of the most meaningful moments came when a student said to her, “I really like the Bible verses you share. They help me feel like I am getting the best of learning!” 💜 That simple reflection captures the heart of what learning looks like in Grade 2.
