Reflections from Middle School Retreat

The Cornerstone Christian School has given us the privilege to learn about God in many ways. One of these ways is through the Middle School Retreat. Our retreat lasted two days (9/18-9/19). Those two days were very powerful for me because I felt the Holy Spirit speak to me through our speakers, Mrs. Snellenberger (Mrs. S.) and Mr. Sullivan.

On day one, Mr. Sullivan shared about considering the challenge, “What does your life revolve around?” I personally think that our society is not revolving around God and that we are not doing a good job without Him.  I learned that we need to have our lives revolve around God, because just as a character in a story can’t tell the author what to do, we shouldn’t tell God what to do. When I heard Mr. Sullivan share the Gospel of Christ that day I was very encouraged. I will not let anyone or anything hold me back from letting God take the lead in my life.

On day two, Mrs. S started the study by asking us about our spiritual house and if there was anything that God wanted to clean up. When I heard Mrs. S., I was motivated to consider the state of my spiritual house. We all made an individual prayer to ask God to forgive us for the things that grieve His Spirit and to ask Him to help us to live the way that He wants us to. I thought all that I heard that day was very meaningful to me. I decided to apply this to my life by filtering my life with WWJD (What Would Jesus Do?).

Along with Bible studies like these, we also did service projects, fun activities, and we even had some unusual experiences. Through it all, I believe that God was working through this retreat to help us fulfill the purpose for the retreat: to get away from school work and to retreat into the praise and worship of God.  I believe that this is the best way to start off another fantastic school year!
