Sorting the Tools in Our Communication Toolbox

The Cornerstone app has officially hit the marketplace! Now you can stay even more connected to CCS and “be in the know.” We are excited to have added this newest communication tool to our toolbox!  If you are wondering how the app will be used, and what it means for the other tools we have already been using, the following is an overview.

 Sycamore School
We continue to use Sycamore as a portal for parent communication. You should consider Sycamore as the right tool for:

 · Viewing student grades and assignments (Gr. 6-12)

· Accessing previously published documents and forms

· Scheduling Parent-Teacher Conferences (Gr. 6-12)

· Communicating with teachers via Pass-A-Note (PAN)*

*Parents are encouraged to set up their PANs to be forwarded via text or email so that they do not miss teacher notes or demerit notifications. In this way you can stay connected without logging onto Sycamore as frequently. Note that parents are also welcome to communicate with teachers via email rather than PAN if it is more convenient.

 School Messenger

We will continue to use School Messenger to send automated phone calls in the event of school closings or emergencies. Additionally, when a message is sent, a “push notification” will also be sent through the app to let you know that a message was published.

 Facebook

We will continue to regularly update our Facebook page in an effort to make Cornerstone visible to the larger community. You may have noticed that many of our recent Facebook posts were actually links that were shared from our external website.  This is how we will be able to simultaneously publish articles to the news feed on the app and to Facebook. These news articles, reminders, and updates that you see on Facebook will also be viewable on the app.

 External Website

Our website, www.TheCornerstoneChristianSchool.com, is primarily designed for those families who are interested in CCS but are not yet a direct part of our school community.

Class Dojo

Many of our elementary teachers have begun using the Class Dojo app this year. Those teachers will continue to use this app to communicate directly to their smaller classroom communities. Class Dojo allows teachers to share photos, stories and messages with only the parents connected to their individual classrooms.

Email
We will continue to communicate with families through email. It will be our goal to send no more than one school-wide email per week. This email will replace the weekly Lion’s Roar and will contain important updates, reminders and important links.

You can also continue to communicate with the office, administration, and teachers through email.

Lion’s Roar

We will be transitioning from a weekly newsletter to a monthly newsletter. This newsletter will highlight exciting things that are happening at Cornerstone. Many of the articles featured in the newsletter will have been previously published on the app (and Facebook).  Watch the newsfeed on the app to stay informed between newsletter publications.

The newsletter will no longer feature as many “reminder-type” news articles. Instead, we will communicate reminders through our newsfeed on the App and through our weekly school-wide emails.  We will be publishing weekly newsletters until the first week in January. At that time we will move to a monthly publication.

How Will We Use the Cornerstone App?

The Cornerstone app will provide you with opportunities to stay informed while also being able to tailor the types of information you are most interested in receiving. You can quickly view the Lion’s Roar, have easy access to our calendars, and read news articles and reminders. You can also receive notifications that will remind you about upcoming due dates, changes to our schedule, and, of course, announcements about snow closings and school emergencies.

The Cornerstone app also features several ways for you to quickly contact the office. You don’t need to locate our phone number or the email address of your child’s teacher. All of this information is readily available through the app. There is even a “Message Office” option that allows you to send a message to Miss Williams or Mrs. Clark directly through the app.  It has never been easier to report an absence or notify the office about a change to your child’s pick-up plans.

As we transition away from the weekly newsletters, it will be important that you watch the articles on the Cornerstone app. The monthly newsletters will no longer feature reminders about things such as early dismissals and theme days. These will be posted on the app, which will also continue to post to Facebook.
