Creating Lifelong Readers

Cornerstone's library is located on the upper level of the elementary building. The main focus of the library is on fiction and nonfiction books for students through Grade 5. However, the library includes books of interest through Grade 8.

Elementary students attend Library once per week. These weekly visits include  a literature lesson and a chance to check out books. The librarian presents age-appropriate lessons that focus on genres of literature, author studies, or historical events and holidays.  The students love the chance to check out books to bring home and share with their families.

The upper elementary students and middle school students also learn research skills in the library as they prepare for their papers, such as the science fair and benchmark writing assignments.  Beginning in Grade 7 students are also encouraged to visit several of our local libraries to conduct research. Field trips to the local library and to our local community college library serve to introduce the students to these valuable resources.
